WHAT IS LIQUID SCREED?
There are several types of liquid screed on the market. At Kent Liquid Screed we use two main products, Calcium Sulphate and Cemfloor.
Benefits of flowing screed over traditional sand cement screeds:
- Can handle light foot traffic 24-48 hours after installation instead of 7 days with traditional screed.
- A surface finish that complies to SR2 under BS8204 while traditional screed is dependent on the contractor and is prone to curling and cracks.
- The compressive strength of liquid screed hits 30N/mm2 compared to just 10-20N/mm2 on traditional screeds.
- Typical drying times for traditional screed at the minimum required depth of 75mm is 11 weeks compared to just 3 weeks with liquid screed when layed at the minimum depth of 20mm.
- All liquid screeds are produced either by a manufacturing plant or a volumetric truck adhering to BSEN 13454 where as traditional screeds made on site lack quality control and product quality can vary throughout the installation.
Calcium Sulphate (Anhydrite)
Calcium sulphate screed is an incredibly versatile product suitable for application ranging from warehouses down to a garden summer house. The product is able to be installed at depths as low as 20mm and due to the nature of the product fewer expansion joints are required. The screed is a self-compacting material that adheres to BSEN 13813:2002.
CemFloor
Cemfloor is cement based flowing screed that can be laid as thin as 30mm on an unbonded surface and is ready for light foot traffic in 24-48 hours. The main advantage of Cemfloor is the ability to be ready for a final floor covering after just 10 days when used in conjunction with a Green screed adhesive. Typically bay sizes of upto 15om2 can be screeded without the need for expansion joints. The finished surface of the screed complies to SR2.
